Alan Keeso, TPH Academy CEO
Looking back on a year filled with much to celebrate, TPH Academy CEO, Alan Keeso, reflects on the heart of TPH’s mission. “Our core purpose is to advance – in and beyond the game – the next generation of impact players. This past year was filled with great milestones and achievements from the launch of our TPH Impact Player Foundation, to our expansion north of the border into Ontario, Canada, and to the outstanding accomplishments of our student-athletes. As we look forward to the future of TPH Academy, we reflect on this year with pride and remain committed to our vision of leading the world in the holistic development of student-athletes.”
The 2022-2023 year was filled with many exciting TPH firsts. In May, TPH announced the recipients of the inaugural TPH Impact Player of the Year Award, recognizing Drew Bross, Eliot De Leon, and Isabella Reese for their leadership, respect, and athletic achievements. In addition, the TPH Impact Player Foundation was introduced this past March, providing scholarships and financial support to allow more student-athletes to pursue their dreams through commitment to athletics, academics, and community leadership.
TPH’s recent expansion north of the border included the re-introduction of the TPH Academy model to London, Ontario’s Total Package Hockey, as well as a new partnership with World Elite Powered by TPH. Organization-wide history was made when TPH Academy announced its first major junior hockey partnership, becoming the Official Academic Provider for the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.
Coast to coast, #TeamTPH colleagues dedicated their time, talents, and hearts to the development of TPH student-athletes. It was this passion for the organization and its efforts to foster a healthy, impactful environment for student-athletes that led to TPH Academy’s recognition as one of the 2022 Best Employers in Sports by Front Office Sports – another TPH first!
The most notable accomplishments TPH Academy saw this year were those of their dedicated and enthusiastic student-athletes. With their commitment to academics, 82% of student-athletes made the honor roll and TPH Academy saw an average 3.57 GPA across all locations in the 2022-2023 academic year.
The holistic, academy-style approach of TPH Academy provides student-athletes with the opportunity to Study, Train, and Play to newfound levels of potential in the best possible learning and developmental environment for their individual needs. This versatile and individualized approach has proven to be effective, with an average 2.55% GPA progression from the first to second semester of the 2022-2023 school year.
Outside of the classroom, student-athletes continued to put in hard work. With great pride, TPH Academy recognized five alumni drafted to the National Hockey League, twenty five athletes committed to play collegiate hockey, and five athletes drafted to major junior hockey in Canada, with even more incredible advancements highlighted in the impact report. TPH Academy was also represented at USA Baseball and the 2022 MLS NEXT All-Star game.
The standout Girls in the Game section of the Impact Report celebrates the accomplishments of TPH Academy’s dedicated female student-athletes. With the gradual increase in access and opportunities for girls in sports, particularly ice hockey, TPH remained committed to expanding these prospects through its academies, associations, and events in the 2022-2023 year. TPH Academy also celebrated a number of student-athlete figure skaters, synchro teams, and equestrians who placed in notable competitions across the nation.
TPH Academy emphasizes that the impact player is a servant-leader both in and out of sport. Collectively, TPH student-athletes gave 2,260 hours of volunteer service to the community, 18,640 pounds of food donated, and 114 families helped within their communities. Giving back is a core component to TPH Academy’s holistic approach to development and each academy location gives back locally in a way that is impactful to their individual communities.
“We are beyond proud of our student-athletes for their commitment to hard work, growth as athletes and as students, and dedication to service to their communities,” shared Keeso. “Thank you to our TPH Academy student-athletes, parents, teammates, and partners for an incredible 2022-2023 year.”
