TPH Nashville Chooses Jennifer Cubides as Head of Academics for its Center of Excellence
TPH Nashville is ecstatic to announce new hire Jennifer Cubides in the role of Head of Academics. Cubides brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, ranging from work in elementary, middle, and high school grade levels, as well as experience working with children in diverse backgrounds and needs, both in traditional and non-traditional learning environments. Cubides possesses firsthand knowledge of the CoE’s hybrid learning style, which will be an asset as she implements its completely individualized, customized NCAA-accredited blended learning experience to student-athletes who attend the Nashville Center of Excellence (CoE).
“Without a doubt, education is a powerful tool that can innately prepare and enable students to grow intellectually, as well as emotionally, and socially. I believe in my new role I will have the privilege of working with diverse students, with varying needs, who all have the remarkable ability to learn, explore, and flourish as individuals. That is why I am eager to begin my role as director, where I will incorporate both academic and social-emotional learning objectives, while being able to offer a customized learning environment for my students in Nashville,” noted Cubides.
As part of her focus as Head of Academics for TPH Nashville, Cubides will also conduct weekly student-athlete performance meetings with each student and their families, work with the the Director of Hockey-Operations in regards to student-athlete performance measures, while providing mentorship and gaining insights on how to maximize each individual’s performance as a student and person. Cubides will also assist in providing coordinated community service programs and projects for student-athletes at the Nashville CoE.
“We are very excited to welcome Jennifer as our new Head of Academics in Nashville. Her previous experience as a Success Coach, and as an Edmentum teacher, will bring immense value to our team and the families at the Center of Excellence,” TPH Chief Academic Officer Bill Simms said.
In one of Cubides’ first teaching experiences, she had the opportunity to work with children with cognitive and physical disabilities in an outdoor education setting, as well as her work with students to implement the Edmentum software and curriculum, which is the platform TPH utilizes for its student-athletes.
Following that role, Cubides held a position as a 4th Grade Teacher at Cyrus E. Dallin Elementary School in Arlington, MA. Later she would transition into a teaching position at TPH, through Calvert, where she worked as a liaison between Edmentum and TPH, working alongside the Academic Director, and coaches, to provide support to student-athletes and families. Through this experience she is able to bring back these vital training opportunities and experiences to the students in Nashville.
Cubides then worked at Edmentum as a 5th-grade teacher in the Elementary Department and has a Massachusetts license in elementary education (1-6). Additionally, she has credentials that consist of a Bachelor of Arts Double Major in Elementary Education and Global Studies as well as a Master’s degree in Specialist Teacher of Reading from Lesley University Cambridge, MA. Cubides is bilingual in both Spanish and English and worked as an instructor in the Center for Academic Achievement at Lesley University during her graduate studies and pursued a Sheltered English Immersion endorsement.
